Peter adores his older sister, Hailey. And she adores him. Just watching the two of them play together you can sense the care they have for each other. Hailey knows that her baby brother has a serious disease. But what she may not realize is that the playtime she and Peter share is helping him in the fight against cancer.
When Peter's cancer was first discovered, Hailey stayed back home with family while Jeff and Kellei tended to Peter in Memphis. During that time, Peter wasn't himself. That changed once Hailey arrived. "We were here for a month without her," said Peter's mother, Kellei. "Since she's been here, he's bloomed." Peter's speech has improved. He's learned all of his colors, and he knows the alphabet. And it's thanks in part to the love of his sister.
At St. Jude, we are fighting cancer and other diseases that strike children like Peter, so siblings can play together for many years to come.
