Ask any parent at St. Jude and they will tell you that the hospital is one of the greatest places on earth, from the life-saving treatments to the loving doctors, nurses and the family atmosphere that permeates the campus. But no matter how good St. Jude may be, it can never take the place of home.
St. Jude strives to allow children to be treated in their hometowns, minimizing the disruption on their lives. But sometimes, it's not possible. Families like Peter's must come to Memphis and stay — for a week, a month, maybe even years.
After months of treatment, Peter and his family have the opportunity for a brief visit home. It's the chance for the family to recharge and reconnect with the lives they had to leave behind. "He needed to see family and friends," said his father, Jeff, "and family and friends needed to see us."
You can help St. Jude in its mission of eradicating childhood cancers once and for all.
